VE 75
Let’s go out and celebrate a day from long ago.
We do not remember it but still revere it so.
Our parents lived through the war, rationing and blitz.
Years full of austerity and not a lot of glitz!
People helped each other and they struggled through
There was no time for moaning there was too much to do!
They loved the camaraderie and put up with the rest.
Praying for the servicemen and wishing them the best.
When the war in Europe ceased imagine the relief,
Which showed itself in parties quite beyond belief!
The conflict in the east went on until the final bomb
But our folk could celebrate with raucous great aplomb!
We can join and celebrate a glorious victory won
Waving flags and bunting until the setting sun.
We thank our God for victory and His peace at last
And pray to highest heaven that the need for war is past!
