The Journey

The Journey

I cannot cease my endless seeking
Though my bones are old and creaking.
I have had both pain and pleasure
Feeling both in equal measure.
Though my life’s been full of joy
Since I was a little boy
I know that there is something stronger
Better still and lasting longer.
I’ve thrown my heart at sporting prowess,
Sometimes meeting with success.
I’ve had my centuries and hat tricks
Won my cups and dropped my bricks.
Yet, I know there’s something better,
Than to wear the winner’s sweater.
I met my love and know the rapture
And the pain of Cupid’s capture.
I have known a lover’s bliss
Can there be much more than this.
I’ve known some peace throughout my life
But never more than with my wife.
The highs when both my kids were born
The lows when they have seemed forlorn
The joy when granddad gets a hug
The sort that gives my heart a tug!
And yet this life of family joy
Is it enough for any boy?
I have to journey always seeking
Though my bones are old and creaking
Till at last I reach the site
Where Christ was born that Christmas night.
I see a sight of heavenly bliss
Given to such a world as this!
With all it’s wars and naked greed
Punishment should be decreed
But yet we see such peace and love
Sent to us from heaven above.
I know now what my life is for
To follow Christ for evermore.
This then will be my release
A life of constant love and peace.

The Diagnosis

Only minor seizures was what the doc suspects
So EEG and ECG and MRI are next!
In the meantime I should be advised that driving isn’t wise.
That is a disappointment but hardly a surprise!
I have now been driving for over forty years
And having to refrain from it almost causes tears.
I understand the reasons and I know it makes good sense
And I knew that this could happen – one reason I was tense!
I don’t know how I’ll cope with this. I hate to wait around.
And I must be a passenger and never make a sound!
How can I get to all the things that I do every day?
And when folks ask me how I feel, whatever will I say?
Then I know of others who are much worse off than me
So what kind of bleating little wuss am I going to be?
To moan and groan and carp and fuss would be a disgrace.
I’ll do my best to keep a smile always on my face.
I know deep down that I am still the luckiest of men
So I’ve no need to peck around like some old broody hen.
Overall I’m fit and well with an ever-loving wife
And all in all I really have a very cosy life.
