Spare a Thought for Martha
When our Lord came round to visit with his many mates
Martha started working to fill the empty plates.
It was the sort of action that any housewife takes.
She wants to treat her visitors with no visible mistakes!
But her lazy sister was swanning round the place
With no thought of helping! She thought it a disgrace!
She’d put up with it for ages, but there is lots to do.
Is it any wonder that she comes storming through?
She asks for some assistance, as is only right,
If they wanted supper before it gets to night!
She was only doing what she thought was best
When the work was finished they could have a rest!
Imagine her surprise when told she had got it wrong
That our Lord had wanted her to listen all along!
I think he might have told her He didn’t want his dinner
Instead of waiting up to now and calling her a sinner!
With benefit of hindsight she’d want to hear Him talk
But she thought they’d be hungry after a long walk!
Spare a thought for Martha, a conscientious soul.
Without her kind, we’d all go hungry on the whole!
