Jesus Bids Us Shine

Jesus bids us shine with a clear, pure light
Like a little candle burning in the night.

Am I an example to everyone I meet?
To those I play my sport with, or even on the street?
Do I display the values that others might respect?
The love and peace and fortitude that Jesus would expect?
Do I show to others how much our Saviour cares?
Not boasting of my goodness or giving myself airs?
I know that I keep failing but still I want to try
And maybe with the Spirit’s help I’ll do it by and by!

In this world of darkness we must shine
You in your small corner and I in mine.

We see the need around us everywhere we go
Evil men succeeding. Not reaping what they sow!
There is work for all of us to make the future bright
And help the poor and hungry to see a brighter light.
Lord, give me grace, to do my best, to love with all my heart
And in fighting darkness to always play my part.
I may just be a glimmer, not much more than a spark,
Yet even I can do my bit to brighten up the dark!

Donald Trump

Spare a thought for Donald Trump
He has an awesome load
We should not all take the hump
While he plots out his road.
True he has said lots of things
Which give us cause to worry
But let’s see what tomorrow brings.
For judgement there’s no hurry.
American elections seem
Quite beyond our ken
They have a very nasty theme
And insult other men.
It seems, to get selected,
You have to have some money
And then, to get elected,
You have to promise honey!
Like every politician,
Even in our land,
They lie about their mission
And know we’ll understand
That election pledges
May just fade away.
They have some fuzzy edges
When reality holds sway!
“We can’t do what we wanted
We do not have the cash.
Our policy, much vaunted,
Is now just so much trash!”
So spare a thought for Donald Trump
Give him strength we pray
May he be like a sugar lump,
Bring sweetness every day.
