A Lenten Thought

Was it any wonder that You chose to get away,
That you wanted solitude so you could really pray?
You knew what fate awaited upon Your lonely road
And none but you could carry that very awesome load.
You knew you would be tortured and nailed upon a tree
To bear that heavy burden for sinning men like me.
You had to pray for fortitude to complete Your task.
But for the Father’s heavenly help You only had to ask.
You’d rather live a happy life carousing with Your mates
Not have Your lifetime shortened by Those cruel fates.
Yet it was the Father’s will that You should die for all
But You needed fortitude to answer duty’s call.
We humans are so fortunate that our fate is hidden
Of trials we may have to face before our race is ridden.
Yet whatever happens we know You hear our prayer
And in our earthly trials You are always there.
Lord, I have to thank you for dying for my sin
And opening the gates of heaven that I may go in.
