My Sins Are Forgiven
I listened to a sermon yesterday in church
On how my blessed Saviour won't leave me in the lurch!
True I am a sinner and mess up lots of times
But it was Jesus' sacrifice which paid for all my crimes.
Once I have said sorry, my sins can be forgiven
Or, in ancient parlance, I might call it 'shriven'!
Mind you, there is no penance that I have to do
For my Lord has paid the debt for men like me and you.
I don't need to worry that I have not earned God's grace
There is now no punishment for Christ was in my place.
My sins have been forgotten. I leave church a happy man
Resolved to be much better and with God's help I can!
Yet I know I'll never be the perfect article
But I can feel the love of God. The Spirit's with me still.
