Facebook Gripes

I really hate the adverts that fill my Facebook screen
And some of the worst videos that I have ever seen.
Requests to play some stupid games arriving every day
And other people’s records of how they’ve done at play.
Then there is the sharing of twee and soppy things
Which sometimes makes me wonder who must pull the strings?
Then there are the items that demand that I should share
Just to prove to others that I must really care!
They seem just like the letters that promised us some gain
If we sent them onwards and did not break the chain.
And if we were so stupid that we did not comply
There would be disaster to follow by and by!
Then there’s the improvements we don’t want to see.
Do they make things better for anyone like me?
Their version of top stories does not align with mine
If they left it at most recent that would be just fine.
Of course there could be some of you ready to explode
If you have to struggle through another Fletcher ode!
But then I love my Facebook for it lets me keep in touch
With people who I, otherwise, could not talk to, much!

Voting for a Better World !

I wonder how my fellow men can vote the way they do?
Is it just a protest or have they thought it through?
Do they really want a world where bigotry holds sway?
Is putting blame on others the way they want to play?
Have they no compassion for those who are in need?
Are they solely driven by an all-consuming greed?
And what of those who stay at home and do not cast a vote?
Maybe they deserve it if they find they miss the boat!
Sure they can excuse themselves by saying they can’t find
A candidate to vote for of the perfect kind!
I’ve news for them! They never will, for there’s no such thing!
Perhaps they want a puppet hanging from a string?
Get up off your backside and pick the best you can
Or you may get landed with a great big bogeyman!
And you will deserve it for your apathy and sloth
If you get dictators, or charlatans, or both!
We all want a better world for future generations,
So we must encourage our friends and our relations
To take a greater interest in the affairs of state
And make a bit of difference before it is too late!

Elections

We’ve just had an election, which mattered such a lot!
So should we be elated with the results that we have got?
We got a measly turnout of thirty-three percent
It seems that no one worries about how our money’s spent.
Could it be our apathy, or maidenly reserve,
That mean we get the politics, perhaps, that we deserve?
Should we vote for the party, which plays upon our greed
And seems to waste no sympathy for those who are in need?
What about the party who’re scared of immigrants
And seem to give us nothing but mindless racist chants?
Should we show our envy by gunning for the rich?
Is it any wonder that some may wonder which?
I know it can be difficult to struggle out and vote
Especially when it’s raining and you might need a coat!
But many, many people have fought that we might be
Allowed to use our suffrage in a country that is free.
I will always use my vote at each election feast
Even if I have to vote for the one I dislike least!
When good men just do nothing, evil will succeed
And we will get the politics of envy, fear and greed !
It is my Christian duty to help my fellow men
No matter which comedian lives in No. 10 !
But I should do my darndest to build a better land
And vote in politicians who seem to understand!

Faith

The God, that I believe in, cares for everyone.
In order to redeem us, He sacrificed His Son.
Of course I am a Christian and proudly praise His name
If others believe differently it is no cause for blame.
God is so beyond the things that I can understand
That I can only dream, of all the things He’s planned.
How He appears to me, may be, the way that I can cope
And certainly His presence gives me cause for hope.
The things that I believe in are the result of all I’ve learned
And my own salvation is not something I have earned.
I cannot say that others are wrong in their beliefs
I just hope that my Saviour is with them in their griefs.
Whatever they believe must be between them and our God
I have no right to ridicule or claim that they are odd.
There is a space in each of us that only God can fill.
When we invite His entry it gives Him such a thrill!
If He chooses other ways to claim so many others
My Lord demands that I should only treat them all as brothers.
If any want to share the faith and joy that fills my soul
To introduce them to my Lord can be my only goal.
When I am asked a question I’ll answer if I can,
But I will never try to force my views on any man!

Sexist Attitudes

You know how I hate trouble and I’m almost, quite PC
And how I must avoid attracting a controversy!
The news has been disturbing with kidnapped girls and war
But reading sexist e-mails is what we all live for!
I judge a man by what he does and not by what he says
I do the same for women and have done all my days.
The strongest individuals that I have ever known
Are women who just carry on when all their men have flown!
They didn’t need to ridicule the attitudes of men
Or get agitated like some old broody hen!
As for the moral rectitude of reading private mail
And selling it to newspapers – no wonder my words fail!
She says she felt belittled by the content of some letters
Between some very foolish men, who she would put in fetters.
Did it not occur to her that being a PA
She should respect their privacy no matter what they say?
I hope the papers paid her well for ratting on her boss
It’s not his reputation that is the only loss!
Could she, now, be trusted by any new employer?
They would walk on eggshells in case they might annoy her!
Lord, we are so foolish that we sometimes have the nerve
For reading all this rubbish from the press that we deserve!
