Masquerade

We can wear a mask in public and appear so very good.
We can be so pleasant while our thoughts may be quite rude!
We can be full of misery and show the world good cheer.
We can appear attentive while our minds are nowhere near.
We can fool a lot of people with our acting and our lies
But if they knew us truly they’d have a big surprise!
We can still our conscience and ignore the things we are
But there is One who loves us, be we near or far!
From him there is no hiding, He sees within our soul
And if we only let Him, He can make us whole!
Our masquerade before Him, He can see right through
He knows all our motives and not just what we do.
I can see Him smiling as He reads me like a book
And he can prick my conscience with a knowing look!
Lord, You understand me and You love me as I am.
Please, oh please forgive me that my front is just a sham!
