The Moving Finger
“The moving finger writes and having writ moves on,
nor all thy piety, nor wit, can lure it back to cancel half a line
nor all thy tears wash out a word of it.”
Edward Fitzgerald’s translation of the Rubyaat of Omar Khyyam
A poem I was taught at mother’s knee
Its music lies forever in my soul
And ever is a living part of me.
The meaning too is surely crystal clear.
Forget the many things that you have done.
They are the deeds that only brought us here!
The future path is one we choose to take.
The chains of past can never, ever bind.
Our destiny is ours to truly make.
Under God the moving finger glides,
But at our own volition it doth move,
With all our motivations as our guides!
The past has gone forever to its rest.
The future path is ever free to choose.
Let God guide you for the very best!
