Despair
It’s an empty feeling when all you’ve known has gone.
There’s nothing left to hope for! No point in going on.
Less than seven days ago you were on a high.
Your master could do anything! Victory was nigh.
The crowds had been ecstatic. Hope was in the air.
And such a short time later you are in despair.
The High Priest and the Romans had conspired in his arrest
With a deadly outcome you never would have guessed!
You knew your master had the power, so why did he not act?
Yet he did not defend himself when he was attacked!
He let himself be crucified! All hope was at an end!
You had had to watch him die – your master and your friend!
He’d told you that he was the one. The Christ, the long
awaited!
Clearly this was not the case. No wonder you’re frustrated.
Yet through all the last few years he showed by what he did
That our God was with him – did everything he bid!
Why had he not acted? But now that he was dead
You are left with nothing but despair within your head.
Despair and bitter anguish. The end of all belief!
And you are feeling nothing but an all-consuming grief.
