The Lifeboat
The church should be a lifeboat there to brave the sea
Not a cosy cruise ship for the likes of you and me!
It should reflect society not just the middle classes
It should enfold the desperate and those who scratch their asses!
It should go out and rescue, not form a holy huddle.
It should welcome everyone whose life is in a muddle.
We must stand here ready to answer duty's call,
When the maroon is fired, to rescue one and all.
Lots of folk are drowning whom it is our role to save
And, like every lifeboat crew, we must all be brave.
We must have the wherewithal to take on this task
And have the strength and confidence to do what God will ask.
Our lifeboat is unsinkable with Jesus at the helm
And we will all be safe at last in His heavenly realm!
